JOHANNES CAIRNS
Chair of the Board
I am a scientist working on antimicrobial resistance, with a background in One Health and environmental humanities. I have come to see that we all live by some image of a good human life. These ideas profoundly affect our own psychological and physical well-being, our societies, and the more-than-human world. HEH grew from my wish to explore this question integratively and turn knowledge and values into action.
EEVA ERONEN-RASIMUS
Vice-Chair of the Board
I am a microbial ecologist working as a Senior Research Scientist at Syke and as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Helsinki. To me HEH is a platform to bring together the wisdom and people across disciplines and society to find new creative ways to accomplish good life within the planetary boundaries. I believe that by giving everyone a chance to be part of the community and the process, we will create solutions beyond our current knowledge.
NIKO URHO
Secretary of the Board
I am an expert in multilateral environmental agreements and international environmental diplomacy. My work focuses on connecting science and policy, with much of my current work supporting the UN global plastics treaty negotiations. At HEH, I am interested in drawing on insights from different fields and disciplines to broaden my understanding of what a good life means and what conditions enable people and societies to flourish within planetary boundaries.
PÄIVI SUIHKONEN
Member of the Board, Communications and Membership
I am a public sector circular economy expert, service designer, and communications entrepreneur. As a young sociology student, I realized that social structures are not like natural laws, but can be influenced. Since then, I have been involved in diverse sustainability projects. What draws me to HEH is an opportunity to gain new insights together with others.
JARKKO PYYSIÄINEN
Member of the Board
I am a social psychologist and work as a senior lecturer at the Department of Economics and Management at the University of Helsinki. My research and teaching deals with questions of agency and sustainable change and themes of societal resilience and socially sustainable development. The possibility to explore and work on these themes together in a stimulating company inspires me also in the context of HEH.
P.F.T. LYONS
Member of the Board
My studies thus far have included a focus on bioengineering and graduate-level management. My work has been primarily advancing innovations in the medical technology arena. Changing the world for the better has been an underlying goal, and that shared desire has drawn me to HEH as well.
